Tabla is a percussion instrument that is widely used in the hindustani classical music. The instrument comprises of a pair of drums of contrasting sizes. The drum used on the right-hand side is called tabla and the one on the left-hand side is called dagga. Different types of sound and rhythms are generated by use of fingers and the palm on the drum. Tabla has been in prevalent use for ages and it finds a mention even in art and literature dating back to 200 BC.
