Patnam Subramania Iyer

Patnam Subramania Iyer was famous carnatic singer and composer.Though he has composed more than 100 compositions, two of his compositions are really popular and outstanding - Evari Bodhanna (Raga : Abhogi) and Raghu Vamsa Sudha (Raga : Kadhana Kuthukalam).

Brief history: 

Subramania Iyer was born in the famous Thiruvaiyaru town in a family known for its musical involvement. His grandfather was the royal court musician of Thanjavur kingdom. His first guru was his uncle Melattur Ganapati Sastri. He was later under the tutelage of Manambuchavadi VenkattaSubbaiyar. Since Subramania Iyer lived in Chennai for a considerable period, he was popularly called Patnam (City) Subramania Iyer.

Musical Journey: 

He has composed in Sanskrit and Telugu and was an excellent singer. Honouring his skills, the emperor of the Mysore Dynasty, Chamaraja Wodeyar, presented him with gloden bracelets.

Patnam Subramania Iyer had many popular students. The most notable among them are - Mysore Vasudevachar, Tiger Varadachariar, Poochi Srinivasa Iyengar and Bhairavi Kempegowda.
