Lalgudi G Jayaraman

Lalgudi G Jayaraman was a well-known violinist and composer. He had many distinguished disciples and had won many awards for his contribution to carnatic music.

Brief history: 

Jayaraman was born in a family that had a rich heritage of carnatic music. His father, Gopala Iyer was his first guru. Jayaraman started his musical journey as a accompanying violinist at the age of 12. Lalgudi Jayaraman slowly developed his own style of music. He also composed many compositions including dance compositions. He had been an accompanying artist for many of the stalwarts in carnatic music including - Chembai Vaidyanatha Baghavathar, Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar, Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, Ramanathan MD, Seshagopalan TN, Balamuralikrishna M, Jayaraman DK and Sankaranarayanan TV.

Musical Journey: 

Jayaraman had given many outstanding performances across the globe. Impressed with his performance, Yehudi Menuhin, the renowned violinist, presented him with an Italian Violin. He was instrumental in promoting the carnatic style of playing violin to a global audience.

Lalgudi Jayaraman was awarded the 'Padmashri' and 'Padmabhushan' by the Government of India, 'Sangeetha Choodamani' by Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Chowdiah Memorial award by Goverment of Karanataka, State Vidwan award by Government of TamilNadu and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
